The renowned organization working for women, SEWA ( Self-Employed Women’s Association of India), with headquarter in Ahmedabad and leadingclean energy company ReNew Power will be associated to launch a program which will be monitored by the United Nations Environment Programme, to train 1000 women salt pan workers in Gujarat as solar panel and solar pump technicians.
The project, aptly named “Project Surya” aims to train the low-income women workers at Salt pan as solar technicians. One of India’s leading renewable energy companies ReNew ( ReNew Power) and SEWA has partnered for the initiative supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

As per the arrangement, ReNew will provide financial support and SEWA will take care of the implementation. ReNew will also help the workers familiarize with the renewable facilities in the area. The UNEP will be monitoring and evaluating the project.
The women working under difficult working conditions in the remote marshes in the Rann of Kutchh will be trained at Dhokavada village in the Patan district of Gujarat. Initially to start with 60 women, the programme intends to provide technical skill to around 1000 women.
National Skill Development Corporation of Government of India will also support this program which intends to enable the women raise their earning capabilities from Rs. 10000 in ten months at present to Rs. 18000 per month.
The promise that it aims to better the lives of many women who are working under very severe working conditions apart from being a just cause makes it a welcome step in right direction for clean energy transition.
