A court in Delhi on Tuesday framed charges of murder and disappearance of evidence against Aaftab Amin Poonawala, who is accused of strangling his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar to death and chopping her body into pieces.
The accused is charged with offences under IPC sections 201 (causing the disappearance of evidence of an offence) and 302 (murder), Additional Sessions Judge Manisha Khurana Kakkar said.
Poonawala, however, strongly denied the charges and urged a trial. A hearing date has been set for June 1 to continue the proceedings.
On January 24, the Delhi Police had filed a 6,629-page charge sheet in the case. On May 18 of last year, Poonawala allegedly strangled Walkar before sawing her body into pieces and storing them in a refrigerator for nearly three weeks at his Mehrauli residence in South Delhi.
To avoid getting caught, he scattered the pieces at different places in the national capital.
