Surat Court Rejects Request To Examine More Witnesses in Defamation Case Against Rahul Gandhi

An application filed by the prosecution to examine two more witnesses in the defamation case against former Congress president Rahul Gandhi was rejected on Saturday by the Surat Chief Judicial Magistrate, AN Dave.

The prosecution filed an application requesting the court to examine two prime witnesses named Chadrapa – an authority who made the CD and J Manjunath – Kolar district election officer during the 2019 Parliamentary polls. This comes a day after Rahul Gandhi appeared before the court in Surat after the statements given by Rahul Gandhi were recorded.

Accepting the application from the prosecution, the court had scheduled the hearing of the case on Saturday. After the due proceedings – hearing the arguments from the both prosecution and the defense, the Surat Chief Judicial Magistrate, AN Dave rejected the prosecution’s request.

The minister of Road and Transport of Gujarat, Purnesh Modi had filed a defamation suit. While addresing a rally, ahead of 2019 LS polls, Rahul Gandhi had allegedly said that “Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, Narendra Modi… how come all have Modi as a family name. Why do all hoodlums have Modi as a typical last name?.”
