Indeed, you read that correctly. The biggest fan of idlis in the city, this person has ordered 8,428 plates of them.
On the occasion of World Idli Day, Swiggy published this insight into the love of idlis in Hyderabad. The food delivery juggernaut’s analysis, which spanned the dates of March 30, 2022, to March 25, 2023, shows some intriguing information about the popularity of this South Indian cuisine.
Idlis are immensely popular throughout India, so it’s not surprising, but Swiggy’s data reveals that Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad are the top three cities where idlis are ordered most frequently. Idlis are also becoming more well-liked in Mumbai, Kolkata, Kochi, Coimbatore, Pune, Vizag, and Delhi.
Idlis are popular, which is not surprising, but what has everyone’s attention is the enormous volume of plates this one user from Hyderabad has bought.
Idli lovers who travel to places like Bengaluru and Chennai have ordered more than 8,000 plates of idlis, including orders for friends and family. Throughout the last 12 months, they have consumed an average of 23 plates of idlis per day. What a large number of idlis!
Also, the data showed that individuals from Hyderabad also order idlis for tea. The most popular time to order idlis is between 8 and 10 in the morning. The most popular variety of idli is plain, with a plate of two pieces being the most typical order, although Telangana is known for its ghee/neyi karam podi idli.
