T20 World Cup Without Shami? India Bowling Attack Faces Shakeup

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is set to miss the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled for June in the West Indies and USA due to an ankle injury.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed the news, stating that Shami is likely to return to the national team during the home series against Bangladesh in September. Shami underwent surgery for his Achilles tendon last month and is currently recovering.

“Shami’s surgery is done, he is back in India. Shami’s return is likely for the home series against Bangladesh,” Shah said.

This comes as a blow to the Indian team, as Shami was a key player in their 2023 World Cup campaign, taking 24 wickets. He also missed the recent Test series against England and will be unavailable for the upcoming IPL season.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi even wished Shami a speedy recovery on social media after the surgery. Shami expressed his gratitude for the Prime Minister’s support in his recovery process.

Meanwhile, batsman KL Rahul, who missed the last four Tests against England due to a quadriceps injury, is expected to be fit for the IPL season, where he will lead the Lucknow Super Giants franchise.
