Two gangsters who were involved in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala on May 29 were shot and killed on Wednesday in Hoshiar Nagar village near the Attari border in Amritsar, police sources said.
Gangsters Manpreet Singh, also known as Mannu, and Jagroop Singh, alias Roopa, who are the main suspects in the Moose Wala murder at Mansa, had been hiding in a farmhouse in the village.
The head of the Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Pramod Ban, said, “Sidhu Moose Wala was killed on May 29. The perpetrators of the murder as well as their collaborators were all apprehended. The Bolero’s two shooters were eluding capture. Manpreet Singh, alias Mannu, and Jagroop Singh, alias Roopa, were both killed today in exchange of fire.”
In the house where they were hiding, he claimed they had found an AK-47 rifle and a .30mm pistol. “In addition, a bag was found; it will be opened following a forensic examination. We’ll send a team to inspect the area,” Ban said.
The heavy police force of Amritsar rural district, Amritsar commissionerate and Tarn Taran district were deployed.
Both sides exchanged hundreds of rounds of fire. A senior police official at the spot said some policemen also received bullet injuries.
Earlier, Punjab Police teams arrived on the scene armed with firearms and ammunition. People were not permitted to travel on the road that led to the farmhouse.
