Ahmedabad: Cyber Crime Unit Arrests UK Returnee For Blackmailing, Cyberbullying Woman On Instagram

In an yet another case of cyber-bullying in the city, a woman in Ahmedabad fell prey to a trap by an UK returnee man, who blackmailed her through her nude pictures.

Jay Mewada, who originally hails from Mehsana, went to the UK on a student’s visa but had to return to India during the pandemic. After which the UK Returnee started talking to a woman on a social media platform and later made her share her nude pictures. Followed by this, he used these photos to blackmail her.

After tolerating and bearing a year long harrasment, the woman approached the cyber crime unit and filed an FIR against Mewada. Based on this FIR, the cyber crime unit arrested the accused and started the interrogation.

Apart from this, Mewada had multiple accounts on Instagram with different identities – including males and females. He used this accounts to befriend girls and gradually asked them to share their compromising photos so that he could trap them, the interrogation revealed.

Further investigations in the case are still underway and the accused is under interrogation of the cyber crime unit.
