Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Chhaava’ Sparks Treasure Hunt in MP Village

| Updated: March 8, 2025 16:49

Officials in Madhya Pradesh’s Burhanpur district have launched an investigation after reports emerged of people digging around Asirgarh Fort in search of hidden treasure.

The 15th-century fort, located approximately 20 km from the district headquarters, has seen a surge in visitors over the past few days following rumours about buried treasure, allegedly fuelled by its depiction in the Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhava.

Burhanpur District Collector Harsh Singh confirmed the developments, stating, “It came to my knowledge that some people dug up fields in search of gold coins. I have told the sub-divisional magistrate to visit the spot.”

He further noted that any coins found at the site would hold archaeological significance. “I have told the SDM to conduct a probe and stop the digging activity. If the administration finds the coins with people and it is proved they were found at the site, they will be considered government property,” he said.

Local resident Waseem Khan reported the unauthorised digging to officials after noticing a large number of people arriving around Asirgarh Fort.

Videos circulating on social media show individuals using their mobile phone torches while excavating the area.

Sources have indicated that the influx of people was driven by speculation about hidden treasure, purportedly sparked by the portrayal of the fort in Chhava. The administration has taken steps to curb the digging and ensure any historically significant artefacts remain protected.
