‘WAKE UP, UNHRC’: ISKCON on Minority Rights in Bangladesh

| Updated: December 10, 2024 20:39

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON)’s Kolkata centre on Tuesday urged the UNHCR to address the atrocities against religious minorities in Bangladesh, stating that such human rights violations are profoundly distressing.

ISKCON Kolkata spokesperson Radharamn Das said that in order to restore confidence among the country’s minorities, the interim administration in Bangladesh should take decisive action against the extremists causing unrest and detain them.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Das stated, “Wake up, @UNHumanRights! Wake up at least today, on #HumanRightsDay. Your silence and blind eye toward the ongoing #Bangladesh human rights violations are deeply saddening and heartbreaking.”

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHCR) has failed to respond to the human rights abuses in Bangladesh, he added, despite the fact that MPs from nations like the US and the UK have voiced their objections to the atrocities committed there.

Das posted a video of a fundamentalist in Bangladesh threatening ISKCON and Hindu minorities, saying, “Just listen to this open call of genocide against Bangladeshi minorities & wake up.”

The video’s authenticity has not been confirmed yet.

Das stated that, like in many other nations all over the world, the ISKCON provides goods and amenities to everyone in Bangladesh, regardless of their faith. “We only want minorities and ISKCON are safeguarded in Bangladesh,” Das said.
