Whatsapp Comes Forward With A Rush of New Features

| Updated: August 10, 2022 13:53

Whatsapp is one of the widely used social media apps. To keep its users engaged, it comes up with modifications every now and then. It has announced three new privacy features recently. They are as follows :

  1. Whatsapp will not let you leave a group chat without alerting the entire group. This simply means that when you leave a group, administrators will get a notification but everyone else will not. This feature will be particularly helpful for larger group chats, one that surrounds an event or a hyperactive chat, you need not wish to engage with anymore.
  2. Another of WhatsApp’s new features shall include the option to hide your active online status from specific people. Right now, you can hide when you were last active, from the app’s privacy settings. Now, you can hide specific moments from people you don’t wish to share your online status with.
  3. The third feature is currently in testing. It will prevent others from taking screenshots of messages that are meant to be viewed only once. This feature aims to provide solutions to issues that other apps like Snapchat which promote ephemeral messaging face. Snapchat, as of now, sends a notification whenever the chat is screenshotted. But this does not prevent the message from being shared with others, as ephemeral messages can be still captured using a different phone or camera. Hence, sending sensitive images should be done with care no matter what.

Whatsapp’s new range of features comes a month before the scheduled public release of iOS 16. iOS 16 is going to include features like editing a message and unsending a message, buut only between Apple devices that support iMessage.
