Two of Boris Johnson’s most senior ministers, Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid, resigned on Tuesday within minutes of one another, citing their lack of trust in the UK PM’s ability to lead. This is the latest and probably deadly blow to the Boris Johnson administration.
An onslaught of resignations against Johnson was brought on by Sunak’s resignation from his position as Chancellor of the Exchequer. Sunak is reportedly a candidate to become the future prime minister of the UK. He will be the first British prime minister of Indian descent if it happens.
Few facts about Rishi Sunak
– Rishi was the top in line to suceed Khonson, he recently resigned as finance minister on Tuesday saying the British public “rightly expect government to be conducted properly, competently and seriously”
– He received kudos for putting together a pricey jobs retention scheme as part of a coronavirus economic rescue plan that prevented widespread unemployment.
-Later, he came under fire for failing to provide households with enough assistance with the cost of living. His reputation has been harmed by information about his wealthy wife’s non-domiciled tax status and a fine he and Johnson both received for breaking Covid lockdown restrictions.
– His tax-and-spend budget from the previous year undermined his claims to favour lower taxes and put Britain on track for its highest tax load since the 1950s.
– Johnson chose the 42-year-old and named him Chancellor of the Exchequer in February 2020, making it his first full government role.
