Will Smith Slaps Chris Rock At The Oscars Ceremony

| Updated: March 28, 2022 11:11

For all those who thought Oscars was a pre-planned and previewed event, this one should end all speculations.

At the 94th Oscars held early this morning IST, actor Will Smith got up and walked onto stage. He then slapped the anchor, comedian Chris Rock. Yes, he slapped him hard to a grounding silence which then pervaded the ceremony.

The altercation, it seems took off when, despite high decibel warnings Chris chose to make light of Will’s wife, actress Jada Pinkett Smith’s look. She suffers from alopecia and hence wears a bald look.

“GI Joe 2, can’t wait to see it,” Chris said, referring to her Oscars 2022 look.

Following the joke, a very furious Smith, nominated for his work in “King Richard,” went to the stage and seemed to punch Rock in the face. “Keep my wife’s name out of your mouth!” shouted Smith again. Some broadcasters, notably YouTube TV, bleeped out the exchange; unbleeped recordings of the exchange that aired overseas spread like wildfire on social media.

“The Matrix Resurrection” star has been public about her battle with the autoimmune disorder. It is said that Denzel Washington got involved in the incident. “Will, Chris, we are gonna solve that like a family at the gold party. For now, we will move on with love,” presenter P. Diddy later said.

Later, Will went on to win the Best Actor Award for “King Richard.”
