A missing Husky dog is being held ‘for ransom’, claimed the dog’s owner, a Rancho, San Diego resident.
The owner says Meelo, her one-and-a-half-year-old Husky, was last seen on January 12 in an RV parked at Clarendon and Second streets with a man and woman. That RV has since disappeared, and Rawan Alshammari says she is ‘waiting for a miracle.
Alshammari had posted fliers around her neighborhood and surrounding areas, and took her pleas to Facebook and Nextdoor, but to no avail, so far.
After nearly three weeks, she received a message this past weekend from someone who said they spotted Meelo with a couple who appeared to be living out of their RV near Clarendon and Second Streets in El Cajon.
Being ignored by the San Diego Sheriff’s Department for close to 10 days, this past Sunday Alshammari took matters into her own hands. She went to the RV herself to retrieve Meelo. “I knocked on the door. I could hear my dog inside. I kept knocking the door no one opened the door.”
Alshammari also stated that she is willing to pay, but wanted a picture of Meelo as proof. That’s when things took a turn.
Allegedly, a man called to tell her that it was time for her to ‘go get a new Husky’, claims Alshammari.
Alshammari reached out to CBS 8 for help. Reporter Shannon Handy called and texted the number which allegedly belongs to the couple who have Meelo. No one has responded. The San Diego Sheriff’s Office has now assigned a detective to the case.
