Women Envoys Visit Adani Projects in Gujarat, Highlight Female Workforce Participation

| Updated: March 7, 2025 17:36

A delegation of women envoys from nine countries, including Luxembourg, Romania, and Slovenia, reviewed Adani Group’s renewable energy and other projects in Gujarat, highlighting female workforce participation at these facilities.

During their visit to Adani Green Energy’s 30-GW clean energy plant at Khavda in Kutch district on Friday, the envoys interacted with women engineers and discussed the importance of diversity in the workplace for economic growth.

The delegation, comprising seven ambassadors and two high commissioners, also engaged with women members of Self Help Groups (SHG) supported by the Adani Foundation ahead of International Women’s Day.

According to a statement from the Adani Group, the envoys witnessed how the renewables project integrates advanced technology with sustainable development, including the Energy Network Operations Centre (ENOC), which is managed by women engineers.

At Mundra Port, which handles 11 per cent of the country’s maritime cargo and 33 per cent of its container traffic, the delegation explored the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) within the Mundra Special Economic Zone (SEZ), where international investors are engaged in advanced manufacturing.

The delegation included Ina Krisnamurthi, Ambassador of Indonesia to India; Marje Luup, Ambassador of Estonia; Diana Mickeviciene, Ambassador of Lithuania; Ana Taban, Ambassador of Moldova; Mateha Vodeb Ghosh, Ambassador of Slovenia; Sena Latif, Ambassador of Romania; and Peggy Frantzen, Ambassador of Luxembourg. High Commissioners Lalatiana Accouche of Seychelles and Lebohang Valentine Mochaba of Lesotho were also part of the group.

Romanian Ambassador Sena Latif said the visit demonstrated how the Adani Foundation was providing opportunities for young engineers who contribute to both their families and the broader economic development of the country.

She noted that the Adani Group had transformed non-cultivable land into solar plants, manufacturing sites, and functional cities that generated employment and energy. “It was impressive to see the workforce of the Adani Foundation. We saw young engineers just recruited from the campus and brought to laboratories here. They are contributing to their family welfare but… to the whole social and economic development of India. It is very good news for the whole world,” she said.

Latif also expressed Romania’s interest in collaborating with India.

Lesotho’s High Commissioner Lebohang Valentine Mochaba addressed the women engineers, saying, “My message to you is that as a woman you are engineer of the society you are living in, engineer of your family. You have to be brave, you have to be focused, and have to lead the nation in important roles.”

Lithuanian Ambassador Diana Mickeviciene said it was inspiring to see how barren land had been transformed to serve the country beyond just local communities.

“It was very inspiring to see how a barren, waste land has suddenly become a platform to serve the country — not just the limited community but to entire India. Women are working at all positions in the group from operational level to the top management… So it’s empowering that women are at forefront of green transformation of India,” she said.

She added that the group is also supporting SHG women who make various handicraft items and are able to support their families.

Seychelles High Commissioner Lalatiana Accouche, the first woman from her country to hold the position in India, thanked the Adani Group’s management and emphasised the critical role women play in children’s education and growth.

“I thank management (Adani Group’s) for this. Women will play most important role in the education and growth of children…,” she said.

Estonian Ambassador Marje Luup said it was impressive to see women working in diverse sectors, particularly in large-scale solar panel production. “It was very interesting to see woman working in diverse areas. It was impressive to see production of solar panel at such a large scale and participation of women in it,” she said.

On International Women’s Day, she said her message to Indian women will be, “It is always important to dream big to achieve them one day.”

Moldovan Ambassador Ana Taban expressed her hope to see more Indian women in leadership roles and said the handicraft products she purchased from SHG members would serve as a memory of the visit. “The products bought from Adani Foundation supported SHG would bring her luck and it will be a memory of the visit,” she said.

Luxembourg’s Ambassador Peggy Frantzen remarked on the number of young women engineers involved in business growth and empowerment at social and economic levels. “I was impressed to see the project and so many young women engineers participating in the growth of the business which promoted empowering women at social and economical fronts,” she said.

Slovenian Ambassador Mateha Vodeb Ghosh observed that Indian women appeared ready to participate actively in economic development and provide support to their families.

“The stories we saw here are very encouraging and it seems Indian women are ready to participate and they are taking efforts to get engaged in economic development and providing support to the families,” she said.

The delegation’s visit highlighted the role of women in India’s green energy transition and manufacturing sector, as well as the impact of corporate-supported initiatives in promoting economic empowerment.
