| Updated: December 30, 2022 14:55

Where there is entertainment, there are top 5 controversies! After two dull years due to COVID-19, the world returned to normal in 2022, and the year was jam-packed. It’s usual for Bollywood stars to get entangled in controversies, and this year was no exception. Given the controversies surrounding the movie posters, the trending boycotts, and the criticisms of actor statements, one thing is for sure: 2022 has not been the best year for the Indian film industry.

As 2022 comes to an end, let’s take a trip down memory lane and revisit some of the year’s most controversial issues.

1. Boycott Laal Singh Chaddha

Laal Singh Chaddha, the movie starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan. Even before the movie was released, there was a trend to “boycott” it. Aamir Khan was charged for insulting the Indian Army and hurting their feelings. In addition, the Sanatan Rakshak Sena and other Hindu community members protested the film in Uttar Pradesh. They demanded the nationwide ban of Laal Singh Chaddha, claiming that the actor offended their religious sentiments.

In an interview in 2015, Aamir Khan said of the controversial statement in question, “Our country is very tolerant, but there are people who spread ill-will.” Kiran Rao, his wife, also made headlines when she said she considered leaving the country for the sake of their children’s safety.

Eventually, the film failed to make money at the box office.

2. The Kashmir Files vs IFFI jury

The controversial film, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, made headlines after Israeli director Nadav Lapid, who served as chair of the IFFI jury, referred to it as “propaganda and vulgar” during the festival’s closing ceremony.

The International Film Festival of India which was held in Goa screened the movie ‘The Kashmir Files’. “All of us were disturbed and shocked by the 15th film (TKF). “It felt like a propaganda, vulgar film, unsuitable for the artistically competitive section of such a prestigious film festival.” Nadav said at the festival’s closing ceremony.

Many people slammed him after that, including director Vivek Agnihotri, who challenged Nadav to show how the film is factually wrong.

3. Ranveer Singh’s Nude Photoshoot

Ranveer Singh has created a lot of buzz with his nude photoshoot for Paper magazine.

His nude photos went viral on social media. An FIR was filed against him for sharing “obscene content” and “outraging the modesty of women”.

In the photoshoot, Ranveer Singh was naked and lying on the rug, recreating Burt Reynolds’ famous photograph.

4. Jacqueline Fernandez and Sukesh Chandrashekhar controversy

On August 17, 2022, Jacqueline Fernandez was linked to the Rs 200 extortion case against a conman named Sukesh Chandrashekhar in Delhi Court. She was accused, and the ED filed a supplemental charge sheet against her.

She was reportedly in a relationship with him, and he lavished her with expensive gifts.

Since then, the star has been at the center of an ongoing controversy.

Sukesh, the con artist, is currently in jail, while Fernandez is out on bail. This case is still under investigation.

5. Besharam Rang song controversy

The ‘rang’ (colour) of Deepika Padukone’s saffron sarong in the song sparked debate.

The public trolled the actors of the movie Pathan as the song lyrics means “Besharam” – shameless and “Rang” – colour, that have been quite literally assumed to be an insult to Hinduism. The boycott trend began on Twitter, with the hashtag #BoycottPathan.

The outfits that have been worn in the song are objectionable, which concerns Indians, who demanded a ban on the film for its “vulgar visuals.”
