| Updated: December 22, 2022 12:11

Razin knew he could do better. At 22, this son of an air-conditioner repairman wanted to cool off only when he gets his scores alright.

Little wonder then that even after notching 96.20 percent in CAT 2021, Razin rejected the IIM-Udaipur offer and decided to give it another try this year in November. This time, he secured 99.78% and stands a fair chance of admission into IIM-Ahmedabad or IIM-Bangalore.

Nearly 2.22 lakh candidates wrote the exam in 2022, 35% of them being girls and 65% boys. Four transgenders also appeared at the exam. One candidate from Gujarat managed to ace the paper at 100 percentile.

Razin completed an IT course from Ahemdabad University, earlier this year in May. The family of four live off his father’s monthly income of Rs 25,000. His mother is a homemaker while his younger brother Rehan is still in school.

Residents of a one BHK rented apartment in Juhapura, Razin shares: “I have studied on scholarship after high school from C.N. Vidyalaya. My admission in IT owes to high grades in grade XII. The scholarship at AU helped me with graduation. I have always dreamt of being in IIM-A”

The inspirational young man adds: “I did not undergo any coaching or tutorial for CAT 2021. We do not have the means. However, after the 96 percent only, I knew I could do better and so tried again this year. I am grateful to Satish Sir for enrolling me at his centre at a 50% discount.”

For his part, Satish Kumar, Head of the coaching centre where Razin studied for this attempt, stated: “We were amazed to see his 2021 scores and knew he is genuinely hardworking and in need. He does us all proud.”

What next? Razin shares his dreams of a better living for his parents, where their sleep is not disturbed because he had “to study at night in low light.”

“And yes, I want to help society so that anyone with talent and promise is not deprived a fair chance,” he clinches
