The Chhattisgarh government has extended the deadline for submitting property tax without penalty in urban bodies from March 31 to April 30. The Urban Administration and Development Department issued a circular to this effect, asking municipal corporations, municipal councils, and other civic bodies to accept property tax from citizens until April 15.
Given the recent increase in Covid cases in the state, the department has also asked civic bodies to ensure physical distancing during tax collection.
Meanwhile, Raipur Municipal Corporation commissioner Mayank Chaturvedi has directed all ten zone commissioners, assistant revenue officers, revenue inspectors, assistant revenue inspectors, and other staff to follow the order of the urban administration department, with a focus on tax collection from major debtors.
Previously, Raipur mayor Aijaz Dhebar urged chief minister Bhupesh Baghel to extend the date of tax collection for the benefit of the people. In response, the chief minister asked Shiv Kumar Dahariya, minister of urban administration and development, to extend the deadline.
