Bihar CM Asks Centre To Provide Fresh Covid Vax Stocks

| Updated: April 7, 2023 15:53

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday requested the Centre to provide fresh stocks of COVID vaccine vials so that vaccinations, which are currently on hold, could be resumed.

He also said that his government was alert in view of an increasing incidence of covid cases in some parts of the country, despite Bihar was not one of them. He added further that “ Our testing rate is much higher than the national average, which is six lakhs tests per one million people. We are conducting eight lakh tests and Bihar accounts for one-fourth of the total number of tests conducted across the country.”

He stressed that the current increase was seen in the regions of the nation that were most severely impacted when the coronavirus caused a pandemic that affected the entire world. CM added that in Bihar cases are very few but we are alert. In places such as hospitals wearing masks is being made mandatory and we carried out our vaccination drive till our supply dried up. We hope that the centre would do the needful soon.”

When asked about riots in some parts of the state during Ram Navami celebrations, the Janata Dal-United leader took a veiled dig at his former ally BJP. He said that”All the guilty would be exposed and brought to book. In 2018, we did not spare even the son of a Union minister”, referring to Ashwini Choubey’s son Arijit Shashwat who was arrested in connection with riots that had then erupted in Bhagalpur.
