32 Cars Allegedly Meant For Serial Explosions Across Delhi: Media Reports

| Updated: November 13, 2025 15:27

Investigators probing the Red Fort blast in Delhi have uncovered a major terror plot involving 32 vehicles that were allegedly being prepared to carry explosives or deliver bombs across several locations in the capital and other regions, according to media reports.

Among the vehicles under scrutiny are a Maruti Suzuki Brezza, a Swift Dzire, a Ford EcoSport, and a Hyundai i20 — the latter being the car that exploded near the Red Fort on Monday evening.

Officials cited in reports suggest the attacks were planned as part of a coordinated “revenge” operation, with several sites in Delhi targeted for December 6, the anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.

Media reports have said that investigators have so far identified four cars believed to be linked to the plot. Reports indicate these were older, repeatedly resold vehicles — a deliberate choice to complicate police tracing efforts. All four have now been recovered.

The Brezza was reportedly found on the grounds of the Al-Falah School of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in Faridabad, Haryana, which investigators now describe as a central hub for the group’s activities.

The Ford EcoSport (registration number DL10 CK 0458) was discovered abandoned in the same area late Wednesday, with an unidentified young man found sleeping inside; he has been detained for questioning.

Earlier, police had seized a Maruti Swift Dzire on Monday, which was found to contain an assault rifle and ammunition.

The explosion that killed 13 people involved a Hyundai i20 packed with a mix of high-grade explosives and ammonium nitrate fuel oil, according to preliminary findings. Investigators believe the blast was triggered prematurely by one of the suspects, identified through DNA testing as Umar Mohammed, also known as Umar un-Nabi.

Reports say the i20 entered Delhi through the Badarpur border on Monday morning and circulated for several hours. The original plan was allegedly to detonate the car inside the Red Fort parking area, but since the fort was closed to visitors that day, Mohammed is believed to have set it off near a crowded traffic signal outside the monument and close to a metro station.

Authorities told media outlets that Mohammed may have panicked following the arrests of his associates — Adil Ahmad Rather, Mujammil Shakeel, and Shahina Saeed — and the discovery of a large cache of weapons and explosives. Nearly 3,000 kilograms of explosive material, along with firearms, were reportedly recovered from the Al-Falah Hospital in Faridabad and the Government Medical College in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The network is suspected to have ties with the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed, according to official sources. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is leading the probe, which is said to be exploring a new operational strategy used by the suspects — posing as educated professionals, including doctors, to blend into local communities and avoid detection.

The case began to unravel after CCTV footage allegedly showed Adil Ahmad Rather putting up posters praising Jaish-e-Mohammed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Nowgam area. He was later arrested in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, which reportedly led investigators to the larger terror network.

Several of those detained are believed to have worked at or maintained links with the Al-Falah institution, which has publicly disavowed any association with the group’s activities. The institution stated in a release, As a responsible organization, we stand in solidarity with the nation and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the country.”
