The results of the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2025, the gateway to the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and leading business schools, were announced on Wednesday, with candidates from Gujarat delivering a standout performance. For the first time, two students from the state achieved a perfect 100 percentile, placing them among the top 12 scorers nationwide.
Adding to the strong showing, one Gujarat candidate secured 99.99 percentile, while two others scored 99.98 percentile. Ahmedabad emerged as a major contributor, with over 50 students crossing the 99 percentile mark, underscoring the city’s growing presence in the national management entrance landscape. This performance came despite the exam being widely regarded as one of the toughest CAT papers in recent years.
This year’s CAT was conducted by IIM Kozhikode on November 30 at 339 centres across 170 cities. While approximately 2.95 lakh aspirants registered for the exam—over 10% fewer than last year—around 2.58 lakh candidates ultimately appeared for the test.
At the national level, 12 candidates secured a 100 percentile score, down from 14 last year. Delhi topped the list with three perfect scorers, while Gujarat made history by producing two such candidates for the first time, compared to none last year.
The 99.99 percentile bracket included 26 candidates across India, one of them from Gujarat. Of these top scorers, four were women and 22 men, with Haryana contributing the highest number. Another 26 candidates achieved 99.98 percentile nationwide, including two from Gujarat, while Uttar Pradesh led this group.
Gender-wise, of the total registered candidates, about 1.10 lakh were women, 1.85 lakh were men, and nine identified as transgender. Among those who appeared for the exam, 97,000 were women, 1.61 lakh men, and nine transgender candidates. In terms of categories, a majority belonged to the general category, followed by OBC, SC, EWS, ST, and PwD candidates.
Ahmedabad-based student Prashansa Shah stood out as the female topper from the city with a score of 99.98 percentile. A candidate from the PwD category also drew attention with a strong 99.28 percentile score.
Another notable trend this year was the rising dominance of non-engineering candidates among top performers. Of the 12 candidates with 100 percentile, only three had an engineering background. Non-engineers also outnumbered engineers in the 99.99 and 99.98 percentile brackets, highlighting increasing academic diversity among India’s top management aspirants.
