Jeet Adani, director of Adani Airports Holdings Ltd., on Thursday announced a major new industrial commitment for Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region, unveiling plans for a Rs. 70,000 crore Integrated Coal Gasification and Downstream Derivatives Complex at Linga in Kalmeshwar.
Speaking at the Advantage Vidarbha 2026 summit, he said the project is expected to generate around 30,000 direct jobs and position Nagpur as a key hub in India’s clean-energy and advanced manufacturing transition.
Adani said the complex would strengthen India’s energy independence by building domestic chemical and downstream capabilities linked to cleaner industrial processes. He described it as a platform for long-term self-reliance and a major step in creating future-ready infrastructure for the region.
Highlighting the Adani Group’s expanding footprint in Vidarbha, Jeet Adani pointed to the company’s operations at Tiroda, where it runs Maharashtra’s largest 3,300 MW supercritical thermal power plant. He also noted that the group revived the 600 MW Butibori power plant in 2025, calling it part of a broader effort to strengthen the state’s power supply and address stressed assets.
He said Adani’s energy strategy for Maharashtra includes a 25-year supply agreement to provide 6,600 MW of dependable electricity, combining solar generation from Khavda with thermal baseload support. According to him, this energy backbone is critical for sustaining Maharashtra’s industrial growth, urban expansion and digital economy.
Adani also spoke about responsible mining and logistics development in the region. He cited the underground mine at Gondkhairi, which he said operates with minimal land use, no displacement, and sustainability measures such as rainwater harvesting and zero-effluent discharge. The project also includes a large-scale plantation initiative.
On the logistics front, he highlighted the group’s 75-acre Inland Container Depot at Borkhedi and the acquisition of 24 border check posts across Maharashtra, aimed at lowering freight costs, improving exports and boosting competitiveness for businesses in the region.
In aviation and defence-linked infrastructure, Adani said Nagpur is emerging as an international centre for aircraft maintenance through the expansion of the MRO complex at MIHAN. Following the acquisition of Indamer Technics Pvt. Ltd., the facility now includes 15 aircraft bays with FAA and DGCA certifications, integrated with the Air Works global network.
Beyond industrial projects, he underlined the Adani Foundation’s ongoing work in Gondia and Nagpur in healthcare, education, women’s empowerment through self-help groups, nutrition programmes, and initiatives in clean water, solar lighting, sports and school development.
Sustainability, he said, remains central to the group’s agenda, with measures such as zero-water discharge practices at Tiroda, fly ash reuse, and progress towards the pledge of planting 100 million trees by 2030. Adani Energy Solutions is also working towards sourcing 60% of its energy from renewables by 2027.
The summit also featured remarks from other dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of inclusive development, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s focus on infrastructure-led growth, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s push for balanced regional development.
