Advocate I H Syed Moves Gujarat HC For Bail Plea

| Updated: June 1, 2022 11:01

Senior advocate and former assistant solicitor general, I H Syed, on Tuesday, submitted a plea for anticipatory bail at the Gujarat High Court, in regards to alleged assault and extortion charges against him. A court in Gandhinagar, just a day earlier, had denied Syed anticipatory bail and so the advocate has now moved the High Court.

Senior counsel and the president of the Gujarat high court advocates association, Asim Pandya, appealed to the court on behalf of Syed. He said that if Syed, being one of the notable members among the advocates, is not granted protection against arrest, it would create an atmosphere of doubt and concern among the lawyers. Pandya also urged for an urgent hearing in the matter.

As such, Justice A C Joshi has scheduled anticipatory bail plea hearing for June 2.

I H Syed is facing arrest following a FIR against him and five others. An Ahmedabad-based businessman, Viral Mukund Shah, has filed a complaint against his business partners for assaulting and threatening him over their failed automotive business. He has said that his business partners thrashed him and detained him and his family and also threatened to implicate him in a false rape case if he did not take full responsibility for the failure of their business.

The incident occurred on May 14 at the Gandhinagar residence of former Gujarat Chief Minister Shankersinh Vaghela. Apart from I H Syed, five others are Bhaumik Thakkar, Ikshit Amin, Jankar Solanki, Kuren Amin, and Ravi Chaudhary have been named in the FIR filed on May 15.
