The family of Neelam Shinde, a student from Maharashtra’s Satara district, is struggling with the news of her critical condition following a severe road accident in the United States. In a swift development, her father and brother have been granted emergency US visas to be by her side.
Neelam was involved in the accident on February 14 when a speeding car hit her. She sustained severe injuries to her hands, legs, chest, and head, leaving her in coma. She underwent immediate surgery and remains in a critical state.
The family learned about the accident two days later, on February 16.
Following persistent efforts, including support from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, their visa applications were approved.
“We received a call on February 16 informing us about the accident. After much effort, we have finally obtained the visa. Several politicians, including CM Devendra Fadnavis, helped us. I will accompany Neelam’s father to the US, and we are leaving tomorrow,” said her cousin, Gaurav Kadam.
The driver responsible for the accident has been arrested. Meanwhile, the hospital treating Neelam sent an official email urging her family to travel to the US immediately.
