Air India’s Ahmedabad-London flight A 171 crashed soon after take off on Thursday afternoon near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
More than 200 passengers were on board. Casualty details are awaited. Injured are being rushed to Ahmedabad’s Civil Hospital and emergency services have been pressed into service. Green corridor has been created to take the injured to the hospital.
It is believed that former Gujarat chief minister, Vijay Rupani, was also on the ill-fated flight. However, there is no official confirmation.
Roads leading to the airport have been blocked for vehicular traffic. Ahmedabad Airport remains closed till further notice.
Air India confirmed the accident. The flight operator posted on social media that it is ascertaining the details.
