Allahabad Court Sends Legal Notice To PMO On PM Donning Army Uniform

| Updated: February 3, 2022 16:32

In a curious turn of events, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office, or the PMO, has been served a legal notice issued by a district court in Prayagraj, or Allahabad, in Uttar Pradesh, after a plea was filed against the PM “for wearing the Indian Army uniform last year on his visit to Kashmir”.

Advocate Rakesh Nath Pandey has filed an application under Section 156(3) of the CrPC, arguing that Modi wearing the Army uniform was punishable under Section 140 of the IPC, which prevents civilians from wearing the uniform of a “soldier, sailor or airman”.

The application, initially rejected by Chief Judicial Magistrate Harendra Nath in December 2021 for not being under his jurisdiction, was taken up by Prayagraj district judge Nalin Kumar Srivastava, who issued a notice to the PMO.
