Hackers have stolen more than 630GB of confidential data from Tata Electronics, one of Apple’s key suppliers in India, and released it online. The leaked files include supplier information, component details and photos of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro, which is expected to launch in September.
Tata Electronics is a major electronics manufacturing company that works with global firms such as Apple and Tesla. The incident has raised concerns about cybersecurity and the protection of sensitive manufacturing information.
World Leaks Claims Responsibility
According to reports, the ransomware group World Leaks has claimed responsibility for the attack. The group published more than 200,000 files, totalling over 630GB, on its dark web leak site on June 12.
Tata Electronics has confirmed the cybersecurity incident and said it has restricted internal access while carrying out a forensic investigation. Apple has also said it is concerned about the leak and is investigating the matter.
What Was Leaked?
The leaked files contain detailed information about the iPhone 18 Pro, including its main circuit board, battery parts, camera modules and other components.
The documents also reveal which suppliers provide different parts and which companies are competing for Apple contracts. This information could expose how Apple’s supply chain works and where it depends on specific suppliers.
Technology analyst Paolo Pescatore said the leak goes beyond product images. According to him, the bigger concern is that confidential supplier and component information has been exposed, giving competitors, suppliers, counterfeiters and other bad actors a rare look into Apple’s supply chain.
How Did the Hack Happen?
Tata Electronics has not shared how the hackers gained access to its systems. However, Pescatore said that attacks of this scale usually require hackers to gain access inside an organisation through compromised credentials, weak security controls or by moving across internal systems without being detected.
He said the incident highlights that cybersecurity is only as strong as the weakest link in a company’s supply chain.
Who is World Leaks?
World Leaks is a ransomware group that follows a “hack-and-leak” model. It steals data from companies and then demands money to stop the information from being made public.
The group is known for targeting large companies. Last year, it claimed to have stolen 1.3 terabytes of data from Dell, while in January it said it had stolen 1.4 terabytes of data from Nike.
Who Has Been Affected?
So far, the leaked data mainly contains corporate information. There is no indication that Apple customer information or payment details have been stolen.
The companies most affected are Tata Electronics and Apple. The breach has raised concerns about Tata’s cybersecurity at a time when it is playing a bigger role in Apple’s manufacturing plans in India.
Pescatore said Apple may also be affected because confidential supplier information and product secrecy may have been compromised.
Apple’s Growing Manufacturing in India
India assembled about one in every four iPhones produced worldwide in 2025, around 55 million devices. This is a major increase compared to four years ago, when India assembled only about 6 percent of iPhones. Apple has been expanding production in India as it reduces its dependence on China.
Tata entered iPhone assembly operations in 2023 and quickly expanded from making components to carrying out full iPhone assembly.
As Tata’s role has grown, more of Apple’s confidential manufacturing data has been stored with the company. The latest breach has therefore raised fresh concerns about protecting sensitive information.
Concerns Over Future Cyber Attacks
Cybersecurity researcher Rajshekhar Rajaharia warned that other hacker groups could also target manufacturing companies in the future.
He pointed to a recent ransomware attack on Jaguar Land Rover, another company owned by the Tata Group, as an example.
According to him, ransomware attacks on manufacturing companies have become increasingly common, as hackers try to gain access to networks and demand ransom payments.
