Bharat Jodo Yatra: Irani Gets Called Out For Spreading Lies Against Rahul

|India | Updated: September 13, 2022 14:55

The Congress on September 12 slammed Union minister Smriti Irani after she accused Rahul Gandhi of not paying tribute to Swami Vivekananda at Vivekananda Rock Memorial while launching the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ in Kanyakumari last week.

Taking to Twitter, Youth Congress president Srinivas BV shared side-by-side clips of Irani making the aforementioned accusation and Gandhi paying tribute to Vivekananda’s statue. The video was shared by many other Congress leaders as the grand old party took digs at the BJP leader.

The Wayanad MP visited Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari ahead of the Bharat Jodo Yatra launch.

Nitin Agarwal, National Coordinator, Socia Media and Digital Communications of Congress, called Irani a “silly soul” who is a “serial spreader” of “lies and propaganda”. He also tweeted the side-by-side video clips. The video has since gone viral on social media.

Irani alleged that Rahul Gandhi ignored Swami Vivekananda. “Today, I want to ask the Congress party, you say you’re on a ‘yatra’ to unite India. Then, at least don’t be so shameless as to have ignored Swami Vivekananda. But it seems even such a gesture does not have Rahul Gandhi’s approval,” Irani said in the video in Hindi.

“Chal Jhoothi (liar)…Don’t you get ashamed of telling such a silly lie?” Srinivas tweeted with the side-by-side clips.

Congress leader Pawan Khera also shared the clip and took a similar “silly” swipe at Irani. “What a silly thing to do! God bless Silly Souls,” he tweeted.

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh also lashed out at the Union minister for her comments, accusing the BJP of believing in “propagating lies”.

During ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, 52-year-old Rahul Gandhi will walk from Kanyakumari to Kashmir over a course of 150 days. This is one of the party’s massive community outreach programmes in recent decades. The 3,500 km-long padyatra will pass through 12 states and two Union Territories including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir in about five months.
