BJP Vs Congress Over Amit Shah’s Ambedkar Remarks

| Updated: December 19, 2024 20:26

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday responded to Rahul Gandhi, after the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha held a press conference to address allegations of pushing two MPs from the ruling party.

Addressing a press conference, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said, “Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party MP Rahul Gandhi held a press conference today. We were hopeful that they will apologise for their misconduct in the Parliament today, but they did not.”

“Today, when BJP leaders were protesting at the Makar Dwar, Rahul Gandhi purposefully went there even after security officials asked him to use the other gate and began pushing and shoving,” he alleged.

“Rahul Gandhi acted like a thug. He began pushing people. Our senior MP, Pratap Sarangi, fell and sustained a serious head injury. He was admitted to the ICU and is still receiving treatment. He was unconscious. An MRI scan is being conducted. Will physical force be used in Parliament instead of logic?” Chouhan said.

Dr Ajay Shukla, Medical Superintendent at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi, stated that Pratap Sarangi from Odisha and Mukesh Rajput from Uttar Pradesh were taken to the hospital from Parliament due to head injuries.

The matter of Nagaland MP Phangnon Konyak, who claimed Gandhi threatened and pushed her, was also brought up by Chouhan.

He further claimed, “Will physical force be employed in Parliament rather than reason? Whatever our Adivasi MP Phangnon Konyak said, we are deeply pained by her comments. She has raised a complaint with the Speaker of the Rajya Sabha, alleging mistreatment. The Speaker mentioned that she came to him in tears.”

After all the ruckus outside the Parliament, Konyak said, “I say this with a very heart, for which I have already sought your protection, today while protesting, it was a peaceful protest. I was standing just below the staircase of Makar Dwar. Something happened to me and I feel really disheartened. LoP Rahul Gandhi came really close proximity of me, and I really felt uncomfortable and he shouted at me which I feel is really unbecoming of the leader of Opposition. It is not that I cannot defend myself but still, then it is really unbecoming.”

What Did Rahul Say?

Rahul Gandhi said earlier at a press conference that BJP MPs prevented opposition members from entering the Parliament complex.

“The Union Home Minister has shown his mindset in front of everyone. We have demanded an apology from him and his resignation, but he (Amit Shah) has refused to do so. We (opposition MPs) were going to the Parliament from the Ambedkar statue. BJP MPs, however, were standing in front of us at the stairs of the Parliament complex and were not allowed to enter the House. In reality, they have insulted Dr BR Ambedkar and the Union Home Minister must resign,” Gandhi had said.
