Budget 2025: Lok Sabha Gets Rs 903 Crore, Rajya Sabha Rs 413 Crore

| Updated: February 2, 2025 17:51

The Union Budget 2025 has allocated Rs 903 crore to the Lok Sabha, more than double the Rs 413 crore allocated to the Rajya Sabha.

A major portion of the Lok Sabha budget, Rs 558.81 crore, has been designated for the Lok Sabha Secretariat, which includes Grants in Aid to Sansad TV.

In comparison, the Rajya Sabha budget includes Rs 2.52 crore for the salaries and allowances of the chairman and deputy chairman within the Rajya Sabha Secretariat. Additionally, Rs 3 crore has been earmarked for the salaries and allowances of the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and his secretariat.

The budget also allocates Rs 338.79 crore for Lok Sabha members, whereas Rajya Sabha members have been assigned Rs 98.84 crore.

For the Lok Sabha, Rs 1.56 crore has been set aside for the salaries and allowances of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Unlike the Rajya Sabha, there is no separate provision for the office of the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. The position remained vacant for 10 years as no opposition party met the required numbers to be eligible for the post.

The Lok Sabha consists of 543 members, while the Rajya Sabha has 245 members.
