Congress leader Rohan Gupta announced on Monday his withdrawal from the race for the Ahmedabad East Lok Sabha seat. The decision comes in light of his father’s serious medical condition, which has necessitated his hospitalization.
Gupta announced on X, “Due to my father’s serious medical condition and his subsequent admission to the hospital, I am withdrawing my candidature for the Ahmedabad East parliamentary seat as a Congress candidate. I will extend complete support to the new candidate nominated by the party.”
The Congress national spokesperson also shared his official letter of withdrawal along with his post. Gupta was among the 43 candidates announced by the Congress on March 12, which included seven candidates from Gujarat.
The current sitting MP from Ahmedabad East is Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Hasmukh Patel. Gujarat is set to vote on May 7, in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4. It’s worth noting that the BJP won all 26 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
