In the backdrop of fresh outbreak of Covid-19 in China, there has been an increase in the prices of active pharma ingredients – the components used to manufacture drugs – for Covid medicines like paracetamol, azithromycin and others.

The APIs associated with Covid drugs have become costlier by 15-20 percent in a week. The Indian pharma industry is dependent on China for key starting materials (KSMs) for several APIs.
