Delhi Launches “Trans-Empower” to Support Trans-Community

Delhi’s West District has launched an employment scheme in collaboration with Lalit Group of Hotels, named “Trans-Empower”. The scheme’s objective is to empower and provide job opportunities to the transgender community.
The district administration aims to provide members of the transgender community with free training and employment opportunities in hotel management, hospitality, and food and beverage services through “Trans-Empower” scheme.


Officials say that a memorandum of understanding was signed between West district magistrate Kriti Garg and Lalit Group of hotels on Monday for the training and employing of the transgender community in different sectors Kriti Garg said that this measure for the welfare of the transgender community was past due and the district administration shall continue working to ensure that the community feels included, and livelihood is provided to the vulnerable sections of the society.


In this project, the district is to provide skill training to transgenders and organise self-help groups to aid them get various benefits from schemes such as National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM), Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME), Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). Officials have also said that the district administration has decided to take transgenders as civil defence volunteers and be given specific duties in the office of the West DM.A. In an inclusive effort, a separate toilet for transgenders is also proposed to be made.


Furthermore, the transgenders will also be trained in sectors such as housekeeping, marketing and communication, sales, IT, accounts, and creative cell. The West district administration also aims to organise job fairs, placement and apprenticeship drive to help transgender live a life with dignity. A district skill committee has also been organized under the project, said officials.
