A Special Operations Group (SOG) team, recently nabbed an alleged drug dealer from a society near Harini Road in Vadodara. The police seized party drugs worth Rs15 lakhs from the accused’s apartment. Now, the accused is in police custody with a 5-day remand notice.
While investigating the case, the team learned that the accused who goes by the name of Gokul Shah used to get drugs from a Mumbai-based supplier named Varsha for more than 18 months. Varsha used to pack drugs in boxes meant to hold spices. Gokul used to travel to and from the city via private bus. Furthermore, the police also learned that a Nigerian man named Samuel introduced Gokul, who studied in Mumbai until Class 12, to Varsha.
The SOG team, led by Police Inspector (P.I) C.B Tandel, will go to Mumbai with Gokul to investigate Varsha and try and capture him.
An increasing number of drug cases are coming to light in Gujarat. Just in the past few months, there have been several massive cases of illegal drugs being smuggled into the state. Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad seized nearly 70 kg of heroin worth more than Rs350 crore from a container near the Mundra port in Kutch district.
