Gandhinagar, Gujarat: The Gujarat Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) seized and destroyed approximately 10,000 litres of adulterated milk worth Rs 4.17 lakh in Palanpur and Gandhinagar.
Acting on a tip-off, an FDCA team intercepted a tanker carrying adulterated milk in Palanpur, Banaskantha district. Testing confirmed the presence of maltodextrin powder in the milk, intended for delivery to Sadhi Milk Products. Additionally, 307kg of suspected spurious cheese and paneer were seized.
In the presence of the dairy owner, Laxman Modi, FDCA officials collected 11 milk samples. Nearly 4,700 litres of adulterated milk from Gamdiwala Milk Processor in Gandhinagar were destroyed on-site. Traces of maltodextrin powder were also found in milk stored at the processing unit.
“One of the samples from Gamdiwala tested positive for maltodextrin powder, leading to the destruction of 5,000 litres of milk,” said FDCA commissioner HG Koshia. Two paneer samples and one cheese sample were also collected from the unit.
Koshia added that criminal action will be taken against the accused based on the segregation report of the food samples.
