Gen Bajwa Wants Me Dead: Imran Khan

| Updated: January 5, 2023 16:04

Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, has made new accusations against Gen (ret.) Qamar Javed Bajwa, claiming that the former army chief planned to have him killed and declare a state of emergency in the nation.

The shocking claim was made by Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, in an interview. Khan, 70, and Bajwa had been at odds ever since Bajwa was forced from office in April by a motion of no-confidence.

On November 3, while he and others were standing on a truck with a container mounted on it in the Wazirabad area, about 150 kilometres from Lahore, where he was leading the long march to demand snap elections, two gunmen opened fire, striking him in the right leg.

According to Khan, in Lahore, Bajwa had retired and many had advised him to cease making accusations against him. However, Khan claimed he was powerless to conceal the crimes that Gen Bajwa had perpetrated. Khan allegedly stated that Bajwa “wanted me dead” in the interview, which has not yet been broadcast.

In the past, Khan has attacked Gen. (ret.) Bajwa. Khan has now made Bajwa his major target, accusing the retired general of overthrowing his administration as part of a US plan and seeing him as the lone cause of all of his failures in politics.

Khan claimed last month that Bajwa was engaging in a “double game” against his administration and that he made a “huge error” by extending the term of the military commander in 2019. After receiving a three-year extension in 2019 from the then-Prime Minister Khan, who afterwards emerged as the strongest opponent of the Pakistan Army, Gen. Bajwa, 61, departed on November 29.
