A leopard was spotted on the site of the Ukai thermal power plant in the Tapi district on Sunday, prompting the fire department to set up four cages in different locations to capture the animal.
The large cat was captured on CCTV footage by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel patrolling the factory from cameras set up on the campus with a 12-foot high fence wall.
They notified the forest department, who sent personnel to the power plant. According to officials, the crew conducted a study and placed four cages with bait in areas where leopard pug markings were discovered.
Forest officials also warned power plant workers not to leave the plant alone until the leopard was apprehended.
The facility is around three kilometres away from the staff housing colonies. Aside from the major entry and exit gates, which are guarded by CISF officers, there is another entrance where coal is delivered by freight trains.
