Gujarat Logs 21 Covid-Related Deaths In Last 24 Hours

Gujarat recorded 14,781 coronavirus cases – a drop of 4% from yesterday’s tally of 15,508 and the lowest in last seven days, along with 21 deaths, in the last 24 hours. With 21 Covid-19 fatalities on Wednesday, the cumulative number of deaths climbed to 10,323 in Gujarat, the state health department said in a release. For past few day, the state has been witnessing a drop in the daily Covid-19 figures but increase in the virus-related fatalities. The state had recorded 28 deaths yesterday.

The 21 people who succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours were from Ahmedabad (9), Surat (5), Vadodara (2), Valsad (2), Jamnagar (2), and Rajkot (1). Besides 21 deaths, as many as 309 patients are on ventilator support. 

With today’s update of daily cases, the state’s active cases tally went up to 1,28,192.

Ahmedabad city remained the biggest contributor to today’s tally with 5,248 cases. Other major contributors include Vadodara (2,412), Rajkot (944), and Surat (834).

Scenario Across India

India recorded 2,85,914 new coronavirus cases today, 11.7% higher than yesterday’s 2.55 lakh figure. The total infection tally in India – the second worst-hit country after the US – has crossed 4 crore cases, according to Union Health Ministry data.

The active cases in India now comprise 5.55 per cent of the total infections, while the national coronavirus  recovery rate marginally increased to 93.23%. The active cases presently stand at 22,23,018.

The daily positivity rate, which is the share of coronavirus tests that return positive — considered to be a key marker of the pandemic’s status — has marginally risen to 16% from yesterday’s 15.5%, while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 17.33%. 

The country also added 665 fresh fatalities in the past 24 hours, taking the Covid-related death count since the start of the pandemic to 4,91,127.
