A history-sheeter, Jeevanji Thakor was arrested on Saturday for allegedly injuring a schoolgirl with a knife in Patan. Reportedly, Thakor has been previously arrested for burglary and petty crimes.
According to the reports, the girl, resident of Vahana village in Patan district, studies in Class 10 and goes to school in the neighbouring village. On Friday, when the file was waiting for a transport to reach school, the accused called her made sexual advances to her. On a denial by the girl, he stabbed her on her back and ran away.
However, the police informed that an investigation is underway to ascertain if the girl was attacked for denying the sexual advances or there was any other reason behind the crime.
After the incident, the girl was rushed to the nearby hospital and was the shifted to Dharpur Government Hospital in the evening. By late evening on Friday, an FIR was lodged at the Vagdod police station. Informing further, Police Sub Inspector said that the victim and her family have not mentioned allegations regarding any sexual demands in the FIR but the during the investigation, police will look into into it through this angle.
The accused had been booked under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section for voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapon and Atrocity act. Reportedly, the accused was detained on Friday and was arrested on Saturday.
