Gujarat Records 23,150 New Covid Cases; 15 More Die

Gujarat recorded 23,150 coronavirus cases – a rise of 9% from yesterday’s tally of 21,225 – and 15 deaths in the last 24 hours. With 15 Covid-19 fatalities, the cumulative number of deaths climbed to 10,230 in Gujarat, the state health department said in a release.

The 15 people who succumbed to the infection were from Ahmedabad (5), Surat (4), Rajkot (1), Bhavnagar (3), and Navsari (1). Besides 15 deaths, as many as 244 patients are on ventilator support. 

With today’s update of daily cases, the state’s active cases tally went up to 1,29,875. 

While Ahmedabad city remained the biggest contributor with 8,194, it was a marginal decline of 5% from yesterday’s 8,629 cases. Other major contributors include Vadodara (2,823), Surat (1,876), Rajkot (1,707), Surat rural (612), and Gandhinagar (547). These six regions made up for 70% of the Covid cases recorded today. 

Scenario Across India

India reported 3.37 lakh (3,37,704) new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours ending at 9 am on Saturday, 9,550 lower than yesterday. With 2.42 lakh (2,42,676 ) recoveries, active cases currently stand at 21,13,365. The total number of Omicron cases rose to 10,050.

The Centre Friday said that Covid vaccination, including precaution doses, for individuals having lab test proven coronavirus infection will be deferred by three months after recovery. In a letter to all states and union territories, Union Health Ministry Additional Secretary Vikas Sheel said that requests have been received from various quarters for guidance in regard to the administration of precaution dose to the eligible persons having Covid illness.
