Gujarati-Origin UK Minister Priti Patel Trolled For New Immigration Strategy

| Updated: June 15, 2022 15:53

UK: Priti Patel, the Home Secretary of the United Kingdom, hails from a Ugandan-Gujarati background. However, Twitter trolled her bad for her court-approved decision to send illegal migrants to Rwanda.

On June 11, the London High Court authorized her plan and allowed the first flight to proceed. However, on Wednesday, the European Court blocked the first flight from departure. Later, the Home Secretary vowed to keep fighting for her plan.

Patel describes the new immigration move as bold and innovative. Even though the campaigners lodged a bid against the strategy, they initially failed in the legal challenge. However, the petitioners are trying their best to suspend the expulsions to the east African country.

The Twitteratis are not happy with the UK government’s judgment and called out Priti Patel for the same. They reminded the public how Theresa May sacked her from the parliament. One individual also said that it is ironic that a minister who held illegal meetings with Israeli politicians became the in-charge of the nation’s security.

Patel Welcomes Decision

On the other hand, Patel welcomed the decision of the London bench and said that she would continue to deliver on advancing their world-leading Migration Partnership. ”People will continue to try and prevent their relocation through legal challenges and last-minute claims. But we will not deter in breaking the deadly people smuggling trade and ultimately save lives,” she said.

Justice Jonathan Swift agreed that the Minister had material public interest in carrying out her policies. Prime Minister Boris Johnson also referred to it as welcome news when the UK government introduced the policy in April.

Rumors say Prince Charles discreetly termed the UK Administration’s plan ‘appalling.’ The heir to the British throne will represent the Queen at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in the Rwandan capital, Kigali. That is why he is particularly frustrated by the news. However, the royal spokesperson has denied verifying any private conversation.
