Gujarat’s Young KBC Contestant Sparks Social Media Debate; Overconfidence Or Lack Of Manners?

| Updated: October 14, 2025 12:28

Ishit Bhatt, a class 5 student from Gandhinagar, Gujarat, has become the latest subject of social media debate after his appearance on Season 17 of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC). The young contestant’s confidence on the show, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, has divided viewers—some praising his self-assurance while others calling his behaviour arrogant and disrespectful.

Bhatt first drew attention when he interrupted Bachchan, saying, “Mere ko rules pata hai isliye aap mereko abhi rules samjhane mat baithna” (I already know the rules, so don’t start explaining them to me). His assertive tone continued throughout the episode as he urged the host, “Arre option daalo” (Come on, give me some options), even before they were displayed. Later, while locking in an answer, he exclaimed, “Sir ek kya uss mein chaar lock lagado, lekin lock karo” (Sir, not just one, put four locks on it, but do lock it).

However, when faced with a question about the Ramayana, Bhatt requested options and eventually gave an incorrect answer, leaving the show without any prize money. Reacting to his demeanour, Amitabh Bachchan remarked, “Kabhi kabhi bachhe over confidence mein galti kar dete hai” (Sometimes children make mistakes due to overconfidence).

Clips from the episode soon went viral, flooding social media with comments and memes. Many users criticised the boy’s attitude, linking it to parenting and a perceived lack of humility. One user wrote, “It’s okay if your child has knowledge, but if he doesn’t have manners or doesn’t know how to talk in front of elders, he can never be successful. If I were in Amitabh Bachchan’s place, I would slap him twice and then ask questions (sic).”

Another commented, “Perfect ending. Arrogance got schooled. Maybe now the parents will learn, raising a brat isn’t parenting, it’s public nuisance training (sic).” A third simply called him an “Oversmart kid (sic).”

Still, not everyone agreed with the harsh criticism. Some users felt the outrage was excessive, pointing out that Bhatt is just a child and that his behaviour might have been influenced by stage nerves or even scripting. Others argued that online trolling of a young contestant crossed ethical lines, urging compassion and restraint.

The episode reignited a wider discussion on the values imparted to children—particularly the balance between knowledge and humility. Many users stressed that intelligence alone is incomplete without respect and good manners, especially when one appears on a national platform.

Playback singer Chinmayi Sripaada also weighed in, noting how the public had turned the boy into the “most hated kid” and criticising adults for targeting a child instead of reflecting on the environment that fosters such attitudes.

The debate over Ishit Bhatt’s KBC appearance continues to reflect larger questions about parenting, social media judgment, and the thin line between confidence and arrogance in children raised in the limelight.
