In Delhi, demand for electricity reached a record high of 5559 megawatts

The national capital, Delhi, has set a new record for electricity demand during the winter season. On Friday, the demand for electricity reached up to 5559 megawatts, marking the highest demand so far during the winter season. Previously, the record for electricity demand during winters was set on January 6, 2023, when it reached 5526 megawatts.

The steep increase in electricity demand is due to the intense cold wave. This year, winter arrived early in Delhi, and the temperature has been consistently dropping. As a result, people are using more electricity to keep their homes warm.

Electricity distribution companies in Delhi have stated that this winter the demand for electricity could reach up to 5700 megawatts. They have made adequate arrangements to ensure sufficient electricity supply.

During previous years, the highest demand for electricity during winters was 5343 megawatts in 2019-20. Subsequently, it was 5021 megawatts in 2020-21, 5104 megawatts in 2021-22, and then rose to 5526 megawatts in 2022-23.

The increasing demand for electricity may lead consumers to face a rise in their electricity bills.

The new year began with a celestial bang, as the sun erupted with one of its strongest flares in recent years. Read more.
