Fire at a mental health clinic in Japan’s Osaka killed 24 people trapped inside. The fire took place at Nishi-Umeda Kokoro to Karada no Clinic.
The clinic was always crowded as the Doctor offered treatment for depression and panic disorder with a focus on helping patients return to work.
According to a man who visited the psychologists’ clinic, the waiting area was usually crowded with about 20 patients and there were often people who could not find seats.
Many of Dr Kotaro Nishizawa’s patients gathered outside his clinic out of concern for someone who got them out of a rut. One patient recounted a horrible period in his life where he found himself unable to work, where Doctor’s simple advice to “please take some rest” changed his life completely. He says his ears still ring with Dr’s advice.
A police officer said,” the fire burned intensely for a short period of time and the area affected was limited but I’m shocked at the consequences of so many people being killed because they couldn’t escape.”
