Jammu: Third Blast In 24 Hrs, Over 10 Injured

| Updated: January 22, 2023 16:42

A urea tank of the dumper exploded in Jammu’s Bajalta injuring a police officer. The explosion took place in Jammu on Saturday, making it the third explosion in 24 hours. The blast occurred at Bajalta Morh in Sidhra, and 10 people, including a police officer, were injured overall as a result of the three explosions.

A police officer named Surinder Singh was on duty at Sidhra Chowk (next to the Nescafe complex) on Saturday night when he stopped to inspect a dumper truck transporting sand. When the truck halted, the urea tank—a specific tank intended to remove impurities from the engine—of the dumper truck exploded, injuring the police officers slightly with burns.

An FIR was registered at the Nagrota police station under the appropriate provisions of the Explosives Act after a police inquiry revealed that it was not an accident. As a result, police reclassified the explosion as a blast committed by unidentified individuals.

According to a police officer, a blast beneath a dumper at Bajalta on the Narwal-Sidhra bypass injured one of their personnel on Friday night. He added that a police unit had stopped the dumper at Bajalta for inspection and that the reason for the explosion was being looked into. Police are investigating the blast and have not ruled out any possible terrorist connections.

Two simultaneous blasts shook a bustling neighbourhood in Jammu’s Narwal, injuring nine people on Saturday. According to Intel sources, there were two powerful explosions in the vicinity within a 30-minute period.

The first explosion occurred at about 11 am, and the second explosion occurred 30 minutes later. The first blast was executed in a Mahindra Bolero. Authorities from the Army and police blocked off the area and increased security. The blasts may have been caused by IEDs, according to the police.

Due to the Congress’s ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra and the forthcoming Republic Day celebrations, security agencies in the area are on high alert at the time of the terror assault.

The National Conference and other Kashmiri political groups denounced the twin blasts in Jammu on Saturday. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha strongly denounced the twin blasts at Narwal on Saturday and ordered authorities to act quickly to apprehend those responsible.
