K Kailashnathan reappointed Chief Principal Secretary to Gujarat CM

Senior IAS officer K Kailashnathan has been reappointed as the Chief Principal Secretary to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. He is a 1979 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre. He is one of the ablest bureaucrats in Gujarat, and one who is considered to have an extraordinary sense of bureaucracy and politics both. K Kailashnathan who is a close confidant of PM Narendra Modi will also be a key person to CM Bhupendra Patel.

Kailashnathan joined the CMO in Gujarat in 2006 as the principal secretary to then Gujarat CM Modi and has been continuing in the CMO since. On the day of his retirement in May 2013, the new post of the chief principal secretary was created and since then he has been holding that post. The 68-year-old Kailashnathan has been granted six extensions since May 2013, when he retired as the additional chief secretary to Modi.

Kailashnathan is said to have played a crucial role in constructing the water pipeline grid around the Narmada basin that caters to 70% of the state’s population besides being instrumental to the state government’s flagship Sauni Yojana taking Narmada water to Saurashtra and Van Bandhu yojna aimed at increasing the support of tribals for the state government.
