Though Kerala’s total Covid cases are showing a decline, the daily new deaths are still high. The state now holds the title for reporting 25-30 % of the daily new Covid deaths in India.
Kerala has by far reported 2,037 Covid deaths per million people, which is highest in the country after Maharashtra which is approximately 50% less than Kerala with 1,297 deaths per one million people. Neighboring states such as Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have lower numbers of recorded deaths with 560 and 627 per million respectively. The national average is 382 deaths per one million people.
Kerala’s Government Medical Officers’ Association chief GS Vijayakrishnan explains that the reason for Kerala’s high number of cases is the fact that they are testing for all suspected cases. They are screening for even suspected Covid Deaths and reported in an honest manner.
