Srinagar, Dec 08: Lieutenant Governor, Ladakh, Brigadier B D Mishra (Retd) expressed grief over the tragic road accident near Zojila, in which five Kargil residents lost their lives.

Five Dead in Zojila Accident

Five persons died after a vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident after it rolled down into a deep gorge near Zojila Pass on the Srinagar-Leh highway on Thursday.

The ill-fated vehicle was on its way from Sonamarg to Kargil. All the deceased were residents of the Kargil district.

Second Fatal Accident in Three Days

This was the second fatal accident in three days on the Zojila Pass. On December 6, three people were killed in a similar accident.

The Zojila Pass is a high mountain pass located in the Kargil district of Ladakh. It is one of the highest mountain passes in the world, and it is often closed due to snow and ice.

The Indian government is currently constructing a tunnel under the Zojila Pass, which will improve connectivity between Ladakh and the rest of India. The tunnel is expected to be completed in 2024.

Here are some additional details about the accident:

  • The accident occurred at around 6:00 PM on Thursday.
  • The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
  • The Indian Army is providing assistance to the families of the victims.

After going through major restoration at the cost of close to Rs. 30 crores, the 400-year-old Chari Monastery in Thimpu, Bhutan was consecrated last week. More details.
