The expansion of the Maharashtra cabinet, led by senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis, is expected to occur on December 11 or 12.
It is likely that the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will retain the finance portfolio, while the BJP will continue to oversee the home department, as in the previous Eknath Shinde-led administration, sources indicated.
The Shinde-led Shiv Sena is expected to retain Urban Development and may also take charge of Revenue.
The highest number of ministers in a Maharashtra government, including the chief minister, is 43.
The Mahayuti alliance’s biggest member, the BJP, is anticipated to receive 21–22 cabinet positions. According to the reports, the NCP could get nine to 10 cabinet slots and the Shiv Sena 11 to 12.
A senior BJP leader stated that the final decision on the number of ministers who will take oath would be made within a day or two.
Pro-tem Speaker Kalidas Kolambkar will administer the oath to the newly elected MLAs during a three-day special session of the assembly beginning on Saturday.
