Missing For 16 Days, Ahmedabad MBBS Student Found Dead In Georgia’s Mtkvari River

| Updated: May 30, 2026 20:21

A 22-year-old student from Ahmedabad, Dhvanit Rajdeep, who had been missing in the European country of Georgia since May 14, has been found dead under suspicious circumstances. His body was recovered from a river after he had been missing for 16 days. His family has made serious allegations against the owner of the PG accommodation where he was staying.

Dhvanit lived in the Nikol area of Ahmedabad and had gone abroad to study medicine and become a doctor. He was studying MBBS at Caucasus International University in Georgia for more than two years. Earlier, he had gone to Ukraine for medical studies about four years ago, but after the Russia–Ukraine war started, his parents shifted him to Georgia for safety reasons. According to his family, he was a bright student who had written research papers and focused only on studies. He was not doing any job while studying.

His family said Dhvanit had been facing problems at the PG where he stayed for the last month. He rented a room in the house of a man named Anil, originally from South India. Although Dhvanit paid rent and deposit, he reportedly faced harassment from other people living there. According to the family, his food was eaten, money was stolen, and his clothes were thrown away. Because of these issues, he decided to move to another room.

Dhvanit’s father, Dr. Mayur Rajdeep, said problems increased when Dhvanit asked for his room deposit back before leaving the PG. The owner allegedly refused to return the deposit and a dispute began. Even though the family was willing to let go of the deposit money, the argument reportedly continued. Dhvanit had already rented a new room and shifted part of his belongings there. When he returned to the old PG to collect the rest of his belongings, he was allegedly accused of damaging a door and asked to pay extra money, which the family says he paid under pressure.

Dr. Mayur further alleged that the situation became more serious after this. He claimed that Anil and his associates snatched Dhvanit’s phone and locked him inside a room. The father said he had spoken with Anil through calls and chats, during which Anil allegedly used abusive language and demanded money. The family claims they sent the money, after which Dhvanit was released and left the place in a taxi. Dhvanit had also reportedly told his father that another girl had previously faced similar treatment and eventually left Georgia.

After these incidents, Dhvanit’s father arranged a ticket for him to return to India. On May 14, Dhvanit left his room carrying his passport and phone. He was speaking with his father on the phone that day, but the call suddenly disconnected after about 20 seconds. After that, his phone remained switched off. The family immediately informed the Indian embassy, university authorities, and local police. Later, his body was found in a river, leaving the family devastated.

The family suspects that the dispute with the PG owner and alleged harassment may be linked to the incident, though the official investigation is still underway.
