The Mumbai Crime Branch, in collaboration with the Vadodara Crime Branch, apprehended three men—Adil Malek, Vasim Meman, and Muhammad Arshil Topal—on charges of issuing email threats of 11 bomb blasts in Mumbai, including a threat to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The threatening email was dispatched under the alias ‘Khilafat.India’.
The joint operation initially led to a raid in Ranu village, Vadodara district, resulting in the arrest of one individual. Subsequent revelations from the arrested individual led to two more arrests in Vadodara city.
The accused had allegedly sent an email to the RBI headquarters from the email address ‘Khilafat.India@gmail.com’. The email contained threats of bomb blasts at 11 locations, including the headquarters of HDFC and ICICI. The email demanded the resignation of the Union Finance Minister and the RBI Governor, warning that failure to comply by 1.30 pm would result in bomb blasts at the mentioned locations.
The complaint was lodged by a security guard at the RBI headquarters at the Ramabai Ambedkar Road police station. The ensuing investigation traced the phone number used to send the email, leading to the identification of the sender as Adil Rafik Meman, a resident of the Kasba Faliya area of Ranu village in the Vadodara district.
Further interrogation of Adil led to the revelation of two more names – Muhammad Arshil Muhammad Iqbal Topal, a resident of Rizwan flat in the Tandalja area of Vadodara city, and Vasim Raja Abdul Razak Meman. The accused have since been transported to Mumbai for further proceedings.
